Within a couple years we tried skim boarding and ordered a pro model board to help us develop our skills. If you watch our YouTube Channel you will know that we took that same skimboard and a go-cart that we have and started pulling each other at high speeds to create a wake in our backyard pond that allows us to pond skim at high speeds.
A couple months ago we were watching a fellow YouTuber Chris Rogers, who dropped a video where he was Wakeskating behind a Seadoo using this simple piece of wood with skate grip on top. We had never heard or seen anything like it before. So we started doing some research on what Wakeskating was, why would you want to do it, and how we could start doing it ASAP…
What is Wakeskating you ask, its a water board sport that uses a similar design as a wakeboard. The board is smaller than a wakeboard, made from maple wood, or fiberglass, and usually has grip tape to support the rider instead of using boots that strap you to the board. This allows the rider to maneuver the board in ways that is similar to how skaters trick a skateboard. You can’t catch the same air you do on a wakeboard but it allows you the freedom to spin the board in different directions, hitting tricks like Shuv Its, Spins, Varials, and Bomb Drops. Wakeskating Blew up in 2000-2010 where riders were using winches to drop in to small water locations and hit insane tricks like never seen before!
Wakeskating looks to be an extremely technical sport where only a small percentage of riders have what it takes to ride at the level needed to hit these insane tricks. This is why the sport has declined or you don’t hear about the sport like snowboarding, wakeboarding or skim boarding.
What’s next for us and Wakeskating, we just ordered a Custom Maple Wood Board with our logo on the bottom that looks amazing…. We spent 2 days trying to get our GoCart we have to pull us but we had to switch to a powerful Side by Side to pull us at the speed needed to ride the WakeSkate. We are saving to buy a winch where we will be able to ride in different ponds and beaches across the area.
