We Built a Skimboard Out of LEGOs- Here’s How We Did It

Ever since we first picked up a skimboard, we’ve always dreamed of pushing the limits. This time? That dream led us straight to a wild idea: build an actual, rideable skimboard out of LEGOs. Yeah, real LEGO bricks.

WATCH HERE

We’re not talking about a model or something to hang on the wall—this board was going in the water. We wanted it to skim.

Here’s how we made it happen:

What We Used:

3 boxes of LEGOs – around 960 pieces in total

10 LEGO base plates (10x10) – these were the foundation of the board’s surface

4 bottles of super glue – to lock the bricks together tight

1 can of sealant – because water + LEGOs = not a great mix without it

Luan plywood – gave the board strength and structure underneath

Contact cement – used to bond the LEGO base plates to the plywood

We started by laying out the base plates and locking in a design that felt strong and fun. Then came the real grind: sticking down nearly 1,000 LEGO pieces—one by one. It took patience, music, and a lot of laughing (and maybe a few fingers glued together).

Once the LEGO top was built, we used contact cement to attach the whole thing to a shaped piece of luan plywood. That gave the board the flex and durability we needed. Finally, we sealed everything up to protect it from the water—and we were ready to test it out.

What made this build even more special was who we built it with—our dad and uncle were all in. It turned into a full family project and one of the most fun builds we’ve ever done.

Did it ride?

We won’t spoil too much here, but let’s just say… it floats. You’ll have to check out the video to see how it handled!
